How To Perform License Installation Remotely Using Xcalibur XP

Objectives

An XPI License file enables the use of a specific XPI on a specific device. License files are generated based on the device MAC address by Chip PC Licensing Center. This article provides a step-by-step description of remote XPI license installation.

Procedure

General

In order to obtain a license file, one must send Chip PC Licensing Center a license request.

  • Download the License Order Form from Chip PC web site.
  • Fill the License Order Form with the MAC addresses of all the Xtreme PC devices you wish to license and corresponding XPI types.
  • Send the License Order Form to Chip PC Licensing Center
  • Once approved, a license file will be Emailed to you.
  • For further instructions refer to article No.100 "How To Apply for Licenses" and article No.101 "How To Create a MAC Address List via Xcalibur".

Remote License Installation Cycle

  1. Obtaining license file(s) (*.lic) from Chip PC Licensing Center.
  2. Perform remote license installation (via Chip PC Installer).
  3. Perform remote license installation (via Xcalibur).

License installation can be performed either in one or two step operation. Once selecting an operation type completing the other is not necessary.

One Step Operation:

  1. Open the Start->Programs->Xcalibur->Tools->Chip PC Installer utility.
  2. Click next at the welcome screen.
  3. SOURCE: Use the browse button to navigate to the license pack files you wish to deploy and select the [*.lic] file type.
  4. CREDENTIALS: Provide user credentials for FTP authentication; make sure this user has write permissions on the target FTP site and directory.
  5. SERVER NAME: type either the FTP server name or IP address.
  6. DESTINATION: type the path to the target directory into which extracted pack files will be copied to (e.g. /Deploy).
  7. Click next.
  8. Select all three check boxes to select installation to Xcalibur, FTP and Devices.
  9. Click Next, and START, wait for the process to finish.
  10. Click yes to install another file or No to finish.

IMPORTANT NOTE
"One Step" license installation will trigger all available devices to reboot as result of this operation. Perform this operation after work hours in order not to interrupt users work.
"Two Step" license installation allows deploying licenses to the FTP and Xcalibur server(s) [STEP 1] and than deploying license(s) to devices (one by one) through [STEP 2].


Two Step Operation:

Perform the following only if you do NOT wish to use the "One Step" operation option.

Step 1:

  1. Click next at the welcome screen.
  2. SOURCE: Use the browse button to navigate to the license pack files you wish to deploy and select he [*.lic] file type.
  3. CREDENTIALS: Provide user credentials for FTP authentication; make sure this user has write permissions on the target FTP site and directory.
  4. SERVER NAME: type either the FTP server name or IP address.
  5. DESTINATION: type the path to the target directory into which extracted pack files will be copied to (e.g. /Deploy).
  6. Click next.
  7. Select only the Xcalibur and FTP check boxes.
  8. Click Next, and START, wait for the process to finish.
  9. Click yes to install another file or No to finish.

Step 2:

  1. Select the destined Xtreme PC devices onto which you want to install licenses (one device at a time).
  2. Right click the device name.
  3. Select the License Tab.
  4. Press the Apply All button.

Note:
This operation will trigger the selected device to reboot as result of the license installation. Perform this operation after work hours in order not to interrupt users work.
