SMB Print redirector troubleshooting

Objectives

Sometimes SMB printing is not working even though the SMB plugin is configured properly.

This article explains the needs for proper SMB action.

Procedures

Make sure that WINS server is installed, configured and the WINS service is STARTED (WINS must be present)

Make sure that all the "players" are configured with the WINS server IP ("players" = Thin Client, Print Server, Citrix Servers) ?€“ DNS is NOT enough.

Make sure that the "Make this the default printer" check box on the SMB plugin properties is checked.

Make sure that on the Citrix Farm, in the "Printer management" part, the "Auto Create client printers" is configured to auto create "All Client Printers" (screen captures attached).




In case that on the same device (Thin Client) you have configured both: SMB and Local LPT printer make sure that ONLY the SMB is defined as the default printer.

Once all those settings are configured and verified open an ICA session and check if the SMB printer is mapped inside the session.
