Objectives

This document explains how to locally add non-standard printers, both parallel and USB.

Procedure

Non standard printers are all the printers that are not present on the image's printers list, located under the Printers tabs.

Before you begin:

  • Make sure you haveinstalledthe printer's driver on the Terminal Server.
  • Make sure that you have the necessary permissions on the server side to map local printer into the session.
  • Make sure printer mapping is enabled on the connection (RDP, ICA) settings level.

To add non standard parallel printers follow these steps:

  1. Install the appropriate driver on the server.
  2. Go to: Start ->Device -> Settings.
  3. Click on the Printers Tab.
  4. Select the desired port.
  5. Click Add/Change.
  6. Enter Manufacturer name and printer DRIVER name exactly (case sensitive) as it's written on the server (for example: HP LaserJet 4 Plus).
  7. You may enter a friendly name for that printer.
  8. Select the option "Make this the default printer" at your discretion.
  9. Test the printer's installation by clicking on the "Print Test Page" button.
  10. Click OK to accept the changes.
  11. Reboot the device.

Your new printer should now appear within the Terminal Services/Citrix Sessions.

To add non standard USB printers follow these steps:

  1. Go to: Start ->Device -> Settings -> USB Printers tab
  2. Connect the printer to one of the USB ports.

Note:

  • Make sure that the printer is on.
  • It is preferable to connect the USB printer to the device priorto poweringit on.
The USB printer will be recognized automatically and mapped to session.
  • Offline USB printers will not be mapped into the session in order to save the client's resources.
  1. The printer name will be displayed in the Available USB Printers List.
If it is not presented, press the Refresh button.
  2. Test the printer's installation by clicking on the "Print Test Page" button.
Your new printer should now appear within the Terminal Services/Citrix Sessions.

Note:

  • Printer redirection is automatic when the local printer uses a driver that is installed on the Terminal Server. When a client logs on to Terminal Services, local printers attached to LPT, COM, and USB portsinstalled on the client computer will be mapped into the session. If a printer driver is not found on the server, the client printer will not be created. To make the printer available, the driver must be manually installed on the server.
