How to Reset to Factory Defaults in image 6.0

Last modified: Thursday, Mar 8, 2007 Article ID: 73
Related products: Firmware v6.5.x (CE 4.2)

Objectives

In some cases it may be requiered to reset a device to it's factory defaults.
This article provides information on how to perform software & hardware reset-to-factory-defaults and its expected consequences in image 6.0.

Procedure

Warning:Reseting a device to factory defaultswill delete all user-defined data, and will de-activate any non-locked XPIs. Licenses are not affected by this operation

To perform a Reset to factorydefaults, use one of the following two methods:

A. Method one - Software Reset:

  1. Click "Reset Now";
  2. Choose to reset device settings only, to Remove Plug-ins or both;
  3. Click "Yes".

When to use software reset (examples)?
A software reset may be used when clearing all device settings at once is necessary.

  • Moving devices between environments: When moving devices between environments, running a software reset prior to connecting a device to a new environment is recommended.
  • Device & Plug-in conflict: When device and/or Plug-in settings seem to conflict, a software reset provides a clean start for device configuration.

B. Method two - Hardware Reset:
As in software reset, all manually (and remotely) applied device settings and connections are cleared due to this operation. Additionally, ALL Plug-in settings are cleared and Plug-in status is set to deactivated*.

Complete the following in order to perform a hardware reset:

  1. Take out (disconnect) the power cord connector from the device socket.
  2. Plug in the power cord back into its device socket.
  3. One (1) second after the power is connected the ON/STBYLED shortly blinks (turns on and off), right after this blink, press the ON/STBY button for one (1) second and than release it.
  4. Once the ON/STBY LED turnRED press the ON/STBY button for one (1) second and than release it.
  5. ON/STBY LED MUST be colored RED as a starting point. Plug out both power cord and the VGA (monitor) cable if RED LED can not be obtained, wait "20 seconds and re-plug the power cord. You may plug in the VGA cable once finished
  6. Once the ON/STBY led turns green, press the ON/STBY constantly until the progress bar in the system-splash screen is filled, then release it.

Important note:

If "Disable Stand-by Mode, enable auto-boot" is checked (start -> Settings -> Device -> General tab and press the Advanced button) you will NOT be able to perform the reset procedure, software or hardware. This option prevents reaching the RED LED (STBY) mode. If this is the case, you'll need the Xcalibur management software to access the device.

Notes:

  1. You can use the hardware reset method even if display is non-visible (in case that display settings are not matching the connected display).
  2. When a hardware reset is initiated in devices with firmware 6.x.x & higher - the device boots into a Safe-Mode state.Safe Mode is an intermediate state into which the device boots as a result to a hardware reset. This mode was designed to allow the device to complete it's boot in any scenario. While in safe-mode only basic OS components are loaded therefore device settings are unchangeable. Administrators can only perform firmware or hotfix installation during this mode. To exit the safe mode, reboot the device.

When to use hardware reset (examples)?
A hardware reset should be used whenever software reset is undoable.

  • Miss-configured display: Miss-configured display settings (e.g. too high screen refresh frequency rate) may result in a clutter of colorful lines or a black screen display. This problem might appear when the monitor does not support the Xtreme PC's screen refresh rate / screen area size defined under the Display Tab. In this scenario, initiating a software reset becomes impossible therefore you can either connect the device to a different monitor or perform a hardware reset.
  • Password Locked WBT: Incase the WBT Setup environment is inaccessible due to password protection, and the password set is forgotten. A hardware reset clears the password protection making device settings accessible again.
    Important Note: Locked Plug-ins always remain active even once 'Remove Plug-ins' option is selected. Use this option to prevent accidental Plug-in removal during reset.
Enter WBT Setup by pressing F2(for devices with firmware 5.x.x & below) or through Device Settings(for firmware6 and higher);
