Installing New XPI Versions over Previus Versions

Objectives

Chip PC is constantly working towards improving its products by intoducing new features and fixing any issues found. This article describes the steps needed to install a new XPI version over an existing one.

Procedures

More information:
in order to install a new XPI version the previous version must first be removed from the devices.

Please note: this article assumes that the XPI files have been installed on the Xcalibur server (if applicable) and extracted to the FTP server using the Chip PC installer.

To uninstall the previous version follow one of these methods:

Method one: Locally from device

  1. Enter the device setup by pressing F2.
  2. Go to the plugins tab, select the XPI to be replaced
  3. Press delete and OK to confirm delete.
  4. Press OK twice to reboot the device.
  5. Please note: the XPI licenses are not affected by this procedure.

Method two: From Xcalibur server:

  1. Select the desired device or group of devices.
  2. From the toolbar select Tools-->Uninstall plugins.
  3. Select the XPI to be removed (deletion of more than one XPI Is supported) and click OK
  4. Select wether you wish to unistallit now or schedule the operation to a later time.

To Install the XPI new version follow one of these methods:
Method One: Locally from device

  1. Enter the device setup by pressing F2.
  2. Go to the Plug-ins tab, Click new.
  3. Enter the FTP server Name or IP address and Server Directory.
  4. If required change the logon credentials to be used with the FTP connection and set the bandwidth limit, Click Next.
  5. Click Browse, select the XPI to be installed, Click Next and install.
  6. wait for the process to complete, press finish.
  7. To activate this XPI now, check the XPI check box with the mouse:
    Click OK twice to reboot.

Method two: From Xcalibur server:

  1. Select the desired device or group of devices.
  2. From the toolbar select Tools-->Install New Plugins.
  3. Select the XPI to be installed (installation of more than one XPI Is supported) and click OK
  4. Select wether you wish to unistall it now or schedule the operation to a later time.

To activate newly installed XPIs, Select the target devices:

  1. From the Toolbar select Devices-->Device(s) Properties.
  2. Click the Plugins button, select the XPI to be Acitvated Click the Active/Deactivate Button.
  3. Click OK, select wether you wish to activate it now or schedule the operation to a later time.
